Review of Black Clover Episode 163: “Dante vs. The Captain of the Black Bulls”
WARNING: Spoilers for Black Clover Episode 163
While not the same adrenaline rush as last week, this episode was still packed full of action. True to its word, this week was “Dante vs. the Captain of the Black Bulls.”
This week was equal parts action and character development. Historically, Black Clover excels in snapshot backstories of secondary characters. The spotlight was on Grey, someone who we’ve really had no background on for 162 episodes. In about five minutes, I had a glimpse of Grey’s “Cinderella” type story that further cemented the theme that runs through all of Black Clover. The power of friendship.
Speaking of friendship. Where are Zora and Magna? From what we can tell outside of the neutral zone, war is popping up all over the place. At this point nearly every member of the Black Bulls is accounted for and we’ve seen the results of their training. They better show up with some pretty awesome displays of magic after being gone for so long.
That six month time span raised everyone’s stats. We’ve seen some incredible displays already. I mean Luck has surpassed all sorts of limits and is basically living lightning. But Yami looks to be well on his way to going beyond even his arcane stage. He’s going to be a key player in the defeat of the Dark Triad’s plan. Watching the interactions between Yami and Dante, it’s clear now that this is a parallel to Julius’s showdown with Patry. The Wizard King is clearly absent from this arc but really after that display do we need him? Maybe it’s time for a new Wizard King. All hail Yami, king of the dark dimension!
The fighting is really just beginning. I can’t wait to see when everything lets loose.
Until next time!
