Geek Gal’s Personal Top Five Most Anticipated Anime of Spring 2021
Generally I don’t pay a lot of attention to the new list of anime each season. I only tend to pay attention if one I’m following is starting a new season. I usually end up missing out on great new anime or randomly stumbling across it a few weeks into the new season. Since several of them are this coming spring, I decided why not narrow it down to the top five that I intend to check out.
Number 5
Anime: Shadows House
Studio: CloverWorks
Air Date: April 11th, 2021
I honestly have no real idea what this is about. The key visual makes it look like we’re going to see something sinister in the shadows. From the teaser I gather there has something to do with dolls that are in the shadows. Not entirely sure if that is accurate because I couldn’t find an English translation but the art and music of the teaser have pulled me in. It looks like it will be something different and mysterious. I’ll definitely be giving it a try
Number 4
Anime: Youkoku no Moriarty (Moriarty the Patriot) Second Season
Studio: Production I.G.
Air Date: April 4th, 2021
This anime captured my attention with just the key visual. The image is striking, chaos versus order. I will admit the name Moriarty may have also played a big part as I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes. From the title alone it looks like we’re going to see the other side of the story. The trailer looks even more intriguing. Somehow I completely missed this the first season last fall but I fully intend to catch up before the new season premieres.
Number 3
Anime: Mairimashita! Iruma-kun (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun) Second Season
Studio: Bandai Namco Pictures
Air Date: April 17th, 2021
Picture credit: Bandai Namco Pictures (key visual)
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is such a fun anime. For those that missed season one, it’s about a human boy that is sold by his parents to a demon. Luckily that demon just wants to dote on his new “grandson” and so starts Iruma’s adventure into the demon world. Every character is so fun and over the top so I can’t wait to see what they’re up to this season. Hopefully we see some elaboration on that shocking twist season one left us with!
Unfortunately there is no teaser but that makes it even more exciting!
Number 2
Anime: Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
Studio: Bones
Air Date: March 27th, 2021
One of my all time favorite anime is back! This key visual has so much packed into it it’s hard to know where to start. I think I’m most excited by Hitoshi Shinso in the middle with what looks to be a capture weapon. Most of the other faces are either completely new or we saw them at the sports festival.
After an insane season four roller coaster ride it looks like we’re getting back to the academia part of the anime. It’s going to be a Class 1A versus Class 1B showdown. Bring on the action! Plus Ultra!
Number 1
Anime: Fruits Basket : The Final
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Air Date: April 6th, 2021
Picture credit: TMS Entertainment (key visual)
The final season! I discovered Fruits Basket last year and have been an avid fan ever since. If you haven’t watch the first two season I would highly recommend that you do.The anime is so endearing. Without giving too much away, the story follows Tohru Honda and the Sohma clan who have an interesting supernatural affliction and a deep connection to the spirits of the zodiac.
We’ve seen Tohru and the Sohma clan grow so much over two seasons. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out. I’ll be sure to have my box of tissues at the ready!
What new anime are you excited for this spring? Let me know what else I should check out in the comments!
1) love a list 2) love the layout 3) I am intrigued by Demon School!
Demon School is adorable and I would highly recommend it! Just watch the opening sequence and it will give you the most accurate glimpse of how the show will be.
